1. What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease in which blood glucose (sugar) levels are above normal (normal range is from 70-130). When you have diabetes, your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in your blood.

2. What are the signs and symptoms of diabetes?

• Excessive thirst (extremely thirsty, more than usual)
• Extreme hunger
• Feeling very tired much of the time
• Frequent urination (going to the bathroom a lot)
• More infections than usual
• Sores that are slow to heal
• Sudden vision changes (changes in your eyesight)
• Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
• Unexplained weight loss (losing weight and you’re not trying to)
• Very dry skin
